RE: Parasite Destruction
All of the facilities Icy Strait Seafoods operate in have HACCP plans that are audited and approved by The
Department of Agriculture, The Food & Drug Association and The US Department of Commerce. Icy
Strait Seafood’s products meets the parasite destruction requirement as described in the following
statement.
When we catch fish our primary processing occurs at one of our plants in Alaska. We freeze the fish in
Alaska and we transport the product from there to Bellingham Cold Storage in Washington State. We
transport the product with Alaska Marine Lines (AML), in containers set at -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Once
the container doors are closed, a seal is attached to the doors and they are not opened until the product is
received at Bellingham Cold Storage. The containers are loaded, sealed and taken to the port several days
before transport; it takes 5 to 7 days to transport the product to Seattle and then at least several days to
remove the container from the port and deliver it to Bellingham. This time frame easily exceeds the 7 day
requirement at a temperature below -4 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Glen Harvey
